Criminal Liaison And Diversion Service
Early intervention and support for people who come to the attention of the criminal justice system in Surrey
We work with people in police custody and help them find appropriate support services based on their needs. This includes signposting to local mental health services, drug and alcohol services, supporting people with learning disabilities and much more.
Who we support
Our Criminal Liaison and Diversion team help support people involved in the Criminal Justice system. All members of our team offer a friendly; non-judgemental service and are committed to finding the right support for each individual in the community. The Liaison and Diversion team has six outreach workers, five are provided by Catalyst and one from Barnardo’s. The Catalyst workers support adults (18+) and Barnardo’s support young people (under 18’s).
“You prompted me to do things I forgot, don’t give up you don’t realise how important your job is for people like me and we bury it under the carpet we need more people like you.”

What to expect
Each individual is assessed in police custody. If it is identified that the Criminal Liaison and Diversion team may be able to support, the individual is signposted to our team. We will then work with an individual over a 6 week period or 6 interactions with an aim to find appropriate support in the community and help reduce the likelihood of re-offending.
We can help with:
- Bridging people into services and helping complete referral forms
- Applying online for a Pegasus card
- Job Centre applications
- GP appointments
- Housing applications
- and much more
The team is based at the Redwood centre, Farnham Road, Guildford, but we cover the whole of Surrey and often visit police custody units across the county.
Most of our referrals come from police custody but we do accept self referrals and referrals from other organisations, as long as there is involvement in the criminal justice system.
