An Inspiration for Mental Health Awareness Week 2016
The Welcome Project likes to do interesting things, and what they planned for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week in Godalming was no exception. An attentive audience in the newly refurbished Wilfrid Noyce Centre got to hear Dan Eley speak about the challenges he has had to face early in his life, and how he is using the diving accident which left him a quadriplegic as the impetus to improve other people’s lives.
He spoke with such quiet clarity about how the accident led him to setting up the Dan Eley Foundation This inspired him to pursue his dream of starting apprenticeship-style training schemes for children living in poverty in Colombia and Latin America.
“Our aim is to help young people help themselves so that they can achieve true independence
There were opportunities to chat over refreshments afterwards and everyone who came felt it was a great way to raise awareness.
